Enfield Embroiderers’ Guild

I have been a member of The Embroiderers’ Guild for over 16 years and have heard many talks during that time. Joanna’s was definitely one of the best.

Pat Ashton-Smith, Hexham Embroiderers’ Guild

It is good to end the season on a ‘high’ and your relaxed, witty and informative lecture did just that.

Mary Gillespie, Embroiderers’ Guild

Joanna arrived with a ‘treasure trove’ of her exciting textile art and proceeded to delight and inspire us. Tales of triumphs and disasters. What to do and what to avoid. A fabulous afternoon with this engaging and skilful lady.

Whitley Bay Embroiderers’ Guild

Thank you so much for coming to York at such short notice and sharing your delightful work with us, our members have really enjoyed their afternoon and I think many were inspired by the journal quilts and also very impressed by the quality and quantity you can produce in such a short period of time!

J Johnson, City of York Embroiderers’ Guild

[Thank you] for your very interesting talk followed by an amazing workshop… we all really enjoyed your visit and on behalf of everyone at Galloway Embroiderers’ Guild I wish to say a huge Thank You for coming to visit us.

L Challis, Galloway Embroiderers’ Guild

I have just returned from Joanna O'Neill’s one-day workshop, ‘No Scissors Needed’. This workshop was uplifting, inspiring, rewarding and honest and was one of the best workshops I have attended. Joanna clearly explained all the information needed to create pieces from small samples of work to one-metre hangings depending on ability. There were lots of samples to handle and photograph for future reference. Joanna was very kind to pass on drawing skills and I cannot speak highly enough of the way she gave so much time to each person throughout the day. I would recommend this course to anyone thinking of having a go.
The results were surprising and it was interesting to see everyone's interpretation. Everyone agreed this was a worthwhile day out.

Durham Embroiderers’ Guild

Just a quick message to say how much I enjoyed our workshop yesterday. I have only recently joined the Guild and am in awe of the members around me. Your workshop really inspired me and boosted my confidence. Haven't put my [stitch] sample down yet! I'm going to use it in our travelling book project. Can't wait for my pieces to dry! Thank you very much for sharing your techniques and fabulous work.

Joanna C, Durham Embroiderers’ Guild

Fantastic workshop. You brought out my latent artistic talent. Thank you.

B E Simpson, Northern Threads

Joanna spoke very well, everyone was interested, she had lots of excellent answers to our questions and her professionalism was superb!

L Griggs, Dumfries & District Embroiderers’ Guild

Joanna's workshop ‘No Scissors Needed’ was so popular that we [ran it twice, back to back] with 35 people attending in total. It was a real delight to see Joanna's wonderful work and to learn her technique for using Markal oilsticks to create appliqué-like work. We had two wonderful days and learned lots.

Snape Textile Group

Joanna came to our group, The Maylands Stitchers, in January 2012 to give us her workshop ‘How Do You Know When to Stop?’. We found her a delightful, friendly and informative tutor. This proved to be a popular workshop as we have all, at some time or another, come up against the dilemma of knowing when enough is enough! Everyone went away with a complete set of pages to then make up into a book or other format at home. She also demonstrated several ways this could be done and brought many examples of her work along for us to handle and study at close range. It proved a most enjoyable and enlightening day, and our finished work has reappeared at many of our following meetings to show those who could not attend on the day.

V Broom, Maylands Stitchers

Kelso Stitchers greatly enjoyed and gained a lot from Joanna's workshop and several asked for another one.Personally, Joanna was very patient with an older ‘rookie’ coucher!
